3D World Magazine
3D World Magazine is a great buy. You not only get a magazine, it comes with a CD filled with content, textures, tutorials and in many cases software. It is not necessary to get a subscription for this magazine, as you can get it through most major bookstores, also, you can order from their site. You have a choice to get the subscription or individual issues. Some of the 3D programs and their companion programs to create 3D are sometimes offered on these CD's and you can order back issues. I will do my best to let you know what programs and content is available in which issues, though in all honesty, a subscription is well worth the money, as the subscription, depending on where you live, is about $300 or less, yet the disks with each issue has hundreds of dollars of content, software, etc. on each one.
Hexagon 2.2
You can get Hexagon 2.2 in issue 118 of 3D World. The latest issue of Hexagon is 2.5, however, you can make do with 2.2 version.
Hexagon is a 3D modelling program from Daz and there is a bridge you can get to move your model back and forth between the two programs as you develop the model you are creating. There are many tutorials on how to use this program and many models created with it you can use as well, most of them free. Once you know how to use it, it is rather easy to make your idea's come to life.

Bryce 6.3
Issue 135 contains the full program Bryce 6.3 from Daz. Bryce is a modelling program that can make some wonderful items, it is also quite good at creating scenery, particularly outdoors. The current version of Bryce available right now is 7 pro, yet the free one from 3DW is just as good. There are many freebies and tutorials out there for this program.
Carrara 7 Pro
Carrara 7 Pro is available on issue 133 of 3DW and is another Daz program, also on this disk is Mimic Pro for Carrara, which is a little plugin for making your characters talk, giving facial expressions and movements, as well as the ability to add sound. Carrara is a wonderful program that you can do much with. It has a dynamics engine and though its from Daz they dynamics are not interchangeable.
Vue 8 Frontier
Vue 8 Frontier from e-frontier is available on the disk from issue 139 of 3DW. This is a nice program that you can create many wonderful models, scenes and renders with. The site offers a great forum with tutorials and help, they also have a section of freebies you can download.
